Dielectric relaxation constant measurements of volume charge in hydrocarbons

One of the most important requirements for transferring operations on tankers, which transporting gas condensate, hydrocarbon fuels, is the fire and explosion safety. For meeting these requirements it is necessary to calculate correct speed of fuel movement through the pipeline. For proper planning of fuel transferring strategies knowledge
of specific fuel parameters is needed, in particular, the dielectric relaxation constant of volume charge. The special device, designed to measure these parameters, as well as circuit design used in this device, will be discussed in this article.
Materials and methods
A prototype of the F1849 meter, the measuring cell unit equivalents, samples of hydrocarbon liquids.
Results
As shown by the tests, good repeatability of measurement results is taking place, and accuracy of the instrument is not worse than 4%, which meets the requirements of the measured value maximum relative error.
Сonclusions
Suitability of the proposed method was confirmed in practice.
