The protection of surface and groundwater is a priority for the oil field design, development and exploitation. The article overlooks the causes and factors of oil and petroleum products contact with the environment, analyzes the methods and facilities to protect water objects. In particular, there are oil dams and experience of their use in the Udmurt Republic.
